S Series Maintenance Procedures

To ensure stable operation while maintaining performance, efficiency, and service life, regular maintenance of air compressors is essential. In addition to routine inspection and cleaning, the periodic replacement of lubricating oil, oil filters, and air filters is critical for proper maintenance.

Clean lubricating oil helps ensure proper lubrication of internal components, while clean filters help maintain stable intake air quality and reduce the risk of dust and contaminants entering the system. The following outlines the replacement procedures and key precautions for SWAN reciprocating air compressors.

Lubricating Oil & Oil Sight Glass Change Procedure

  1. Required tools: a container for waste oil, a wrench that fits the drain plug size, and a funnel.
  2. Place the container directly under the drain plug then loosen the oil drain plug. Opening the oil filler cap can help accelerate oil drainage.
  3. After the oil has drained completely, place a cloth beneath the oil sight glass and use a wrench to remove the old sight glass by turning it counterclockwise. Some residual oil may still flow out—handle carefully and clean thoroughly. (If the oil sight glass does not need replacement, please proceed directly to Step 5.)
  4. Install the new oil sight glass with its sealing ring properly fitted (ensure no twisting or misalignment). Align the threads and tighten it by hand first, then secure it with a wrench. Do not overtighten to avoid damage.
  5. Once oil drainage is complete, reinstall and tighten the oil drain plug. Insert a funnel into the oil filler port and slowly refill with lubricating oil.
  6. While refilling, monitor the oil level through the sight glass. Fill to slightly above the midpoint level of sight glass.
  7. After refilling, securely tighten the oil filler cap.
  8. Start the air compressor to allow oil circulation, then recheck the oil level and adjust if necessary.

Oil Filter Replacement Procedure

Oil filter replacement on SWAN reciprocating air compressor

  1. It is recommended to replace the oil filter together with the lubricating oil. Prepare an oil filter wrench before starting the replacement.
  2. Ensure all waste oil has been fully drained before removing the old oil filter. If not, residual oil may spill from the connection point.Lightly clean the mounting area if necessary, then install and securely tighten the new oil filter.

Air Filter Replacement Procedure

  1. Loosen the silver wing screw and remove the black cover. Take out the used air filter element.
  2. Lightly clean the interior of housing and the cover, then install the new air filter element.

Precautions

Safety precautions for SWAN reciprocating air compressor maintenance

  • Replace the lubricating oil according to the model specifications and instructions provided in the user manual.
  • Always replace the oil filter when changing lubricating oil to ensure oil cleanliness. Record the maintenance detail in Appendix 3: Maintenance Record of the user manual.
  • Compressed air and electricity can be hazardous. Before performing maintenance, ensure the power is turned off and all residual compressed air is released to avoid danger during servicing.
  • Please seek assistance from a qualified technician or authorized distributor if you lack maintenance experience or notice any abnormalities.
  • Refer to the Section 4 – Lubrication guidelines in the user manual to ensure proper selection.
  • Dispose of used oil in accordance with local environmental regulations. Do not discharge or dump waste oil improperly to avoid environmental pollution.
